Term 3 Principal’s Report

This term we welcomed Ms Dimitra Darmos and Mrs Debbie Rodda to the Principal Team. Mr Shane Gemmola is continuing in his role as Acting Principal at Brunswick Secondary College so Ms Darmos and Ms Rodda are sharing his role as Acting Assistant Principals with Ms Darmos working with Middle School and Mrs Rodda with Senior School. Both Ms Darmos and Mrs Rodda have worked at PVGC for over 20 years so bring a wealth of local knowledge and experience to the team.

Earlier this term several of our staff were recognised for 35 years service at the Department of Education. Congratulations to Miss Sophie Barlis, Mrs Judy Munro, Mrs Anna Petrocchi and Mrs Alex Zikou for their lengthy service and significant contribution to education.

Comparison data for the Student Attitudes to School Survey, which was completed in Term 2, has also been released. The annual survey asks students to respond to questions related to teaching practice, learner characteristics, school safety, social engagement and teacher-student relationships. The summary report shows that our students are generally more positive about their experiences at school compared to those across the State. We are particularly proud of the fact that all of the factors have higher positive endorsement compared to 2024 and many are the highest they have been in 5 years. It is great to see that students themselves are saying that PVGC is a great place to be!

Thank you also to those who completed the annual Parent Opinion Survey recently. Preliminary results show that a high percentage of parents are satisfied with the education that their child is receiving at PVGC. The responses with over 90% positive endorsement are:

As you will see in this newsletter, our students certainly do have numerous opportunities to participate in a range of activities. Highlights this term have been the inaugural Musical Soiree held at the Science Gallery in Melbourne and the school production, The Haunting of the Halls. Thank you to our Performing Arts staff led by Mr David Rosa and Ms Janet Provan, for their time and efforts in these programs. Looking ahead to next term, our Art & Design Exhibition will be held in our new T building on Wednesday 19th November.

Finally, congratulations to our Year 12 students who are about to finish their secondary school education. Most assessment tasks have now been completed with trial exams and revision to take place in the first 2 weeks of next term. Written exams begin on Tuesday 28th October. We look forward to celebrating your time at PVGC, which will culminate with Graduation on Monday 20th October.

Have a safe and restful holiday break. Term 4 resumes on Monday 6th October.
