Senior School

The senior years at Pascoe Vale Girls College build upon the foundation laid in the middle years, with a focus on preparing students for further education or careers. High expectations and tailored programs ensure that students are challenged to reach their full potential, while also being supported in pursuing their interests and passions. The college recognises the importance of equipping students with a range of skills beyond academics, including leadership, teamwork, and communication, and provides opportunities for students to develop these skills through extracurricular activities and community service. By offering a holistic education, Pascoe Vale Girls College helps students to succeed in their future endeavours and become confident and capable young adults.

Year 10 is a significant year for students as it marks the midpoint of their secondary education.  At PVGC, Year 10 students have the ability to further tailor their pathway through electives and also begin their VCE journey by choosing a VCE Unit 1/2 subject, allowing greater breadth in their studies. Being a part of the Senior School encourages students to take that next step in their education, with a comprehensive course counselling process at the core of the decisions being made.

Year 10 students also participate in a fortnightly LEAP (Learning, Experience, Active, Pathways) class, which is an opportunity for them to engage and connect with the school and community and have experiences that will help prepare them for their future pathway.

Year 11 and 12 are the final years of secondary schooling, before students transition to higher education or the workforce. It is characterised by studying specialised subjects that provide opportunities to delve deeper into their chosen areas of study and build on knowledge and skills acquired from previous years.  Students are prepared and supported through the final years of schooling with tertiary experience and TAFE taster days, study skills, social events and graduation and celebration days.

The Victorian Certificate of Education (VCE) is Victoria’s senior secondary qualification which opens pathways to university, higher-level TAFE or VET certificate courses, apprenticeships, traineeships and the workforce.

Victorian Certificate of Education

The VCE offers an academic pathway direct to university and further education. Students have the opportunity to receive an Australian Tertiary Admissions Rank to enable them to be selected for undergraduate studies at university. We have comprehensive breadth of VCE subjects at school across all areas of the curriculum.

Victorian Certificate of Education: Vocational Major

VCE VM is a hands-on senior secondary pathway that focuses on practical learning, real-world skills and Vocational Education and Training. VCE VM prepares students for employment, apprenticeships, traineeships and TAFE (Technical and Further Education) while completing their secondary education.

Vocational Education and Training (VET)

Vocational Education and Training (VET) in the VCE or VCE VM allows students to include VET within their senior secondary certificate. Students undertake nationally recognised training that contributes to their VCE or VCE VM.

PVGC students can participate in VET courses offered by the Northern Melbourne VET Cluster (NMVC), Kangan TAFE and Melbourne Polythechnic and as a result, students are able to study a wide variety of VET subjects in their local area. Students undertaking the VCE VM must achieve at least 180 hours of VET credits over the two year certificate.
