As part of the Year 9 curriculum, students participate in the City Experience Program, which runs throughout the year. Each form group visits the city once per term, exploring key Melbourne landmarks and engaging in a range of carefully designed, themed learning trails across the CBD.
The City Experience Program is designed to broaden students’ real-world learning beyond their immediate environment. Through exploration, inquiry and collaboration, students are encouraged to engage with the city as a living classroom and to better understand the opportunities and challenges of urban life.
The City Experience Program aims to:
- Provide a stimulating and challenging learning environment
- Extend student engagement beyond the classroom
- Develop new skills, responsibilities and personal initiative
- Promote independent learning and problem-solving
- Support students in appreciating both the opportunities and challenges presented by the city
- Explore the diversity of city lifestyles and cultures, as well as contemporary urban issues
- Encourage effective teamwork and collaboration
- Build student confidence and independence
- Enhance social awareness and community understanding
Through regular city visits, students develop greater independence, confidence and awareness, while strengthening the skills necessary for learning, life and leadership beyond school.
