Our Connect Program was borne out of the support that we gave students during the time of COVID lockdowns. It was immediately recognisable that students had the desire to be able to connect with a significant teacher outside of the regular classroom activities. A pilot program ran in 2022 and the success of that program led it to being embedded in our wellbeing structure in 2023.
Running weekly on a Tuesday, students have the opportunity to engage in curriculum that supports the development of ‘soft skills’ that are incredibly important to employers. Respectful relationships, using the wellbeing platform ‘Wellio’ and goal setting are central to the work that students and teachers share in their weekly session.
It is our fervent belief that having that extra adult that they can learn and connect to is important and is at the centre of ensuring success both academically and socially.
