Sport Education Program

The Sport Education for Physical Education program (S.E.P.E.P)

The Pascoe Vale Girls’ Year 7 and 8 Sport Education for Physical Education Program known as S.E.P.E.P, is run for one semester at year 7 and 8. The program focuses on one term of Volleyball and one term of Netball each year.

This program aims to replicate regular social sporting opportunities similar to community competitions and encourages students to seek extracurricular sport. The program also aims to aid students in achieving the recommended physical activity guidelines for good health and targets social development and personal growth.

The Sport Education for Physical Education Program is a student run program overseen by the Physical Education teachers. The S.E.P.E.P program is designed to cater for a range of abilities and aid students to further develop their fundamental motor and locomotion skills. The program develops and enhances game sense strategies at a beginner, intermediate and advanced level. The program also promotes student responsibility in a variety of roles. These include the following:

  • Captain
  • Coach
  • Umpire
  • Scorer
  • Resource/materials manager
  • Duty Official

The S.E.P.E.P program is designed to improve and enhance student learning in a variety of ‘Learning Methods’. These include the following:

  • Cooperative learning
  • Team work
  • Self-Discovery
  • Collaborative learning
  • Personalized System Of Instructions (PSI)

Furthermore, the S.E.P.E.P program develops and enhances student skills required in a team environment. These include the following:

  • Leadership skills
  • Appreciation of different abilities
  • Respect for team mates/ opponents/officials
  • A sense of belonging/team membership
  • Social interaction skills
  • Self-esteem, self -concept and self-belonging
  • Team goal-setting skills
  • Self-discipline, patience and persistence
  • Resilience through sharing positive and negative experiences
