PVGC PULSE

From the Principal

The college community has much to celebrate and be proud of in 2019. The school program has been diverse with students achieving academic success in the formal curriculum and displaying energy and passion in a rich extra-curricular program as reflected in Pulse throughout this year.

Congratulations to our Year 12 VCE and VCAL students who should be proud of their achievements with a range of pathways being followed in 2020.

Highlights of this year include the establishment of a new House system for the college with students and staff celebrating House success at school occasions such as the swimming carnival, house events and in celebration assemblies held throughout the year. Our college Houses of Alberti, Wake, Cowan and Melba will continue the strong traditions of the college established in 1956 when the school was first opened. A range of college events showcased student talent in the visual and performing arts including the College production, Gala, Music concert and Senior Art and design exhibition. Camps were held for Year 7 and Year 9 providing wonderful opportunities to build relationships with peers and teachers and engage in a range of outdoor activities. Subject excursions, camps and incursions expanded learning horizons for students and our STEAM program provided students with access to hands-on, experiential learning programs, workshops and events, to support their development as creative, innovative thinkers and future leaders. The Year 7 History exhibition showcased the exceptional research and presentation skills of our junior students with food, costumes and full scale models on display. Learning Area weeks included a range of activities for students to immerse themselves into subject based experiences and competitions across all year levels.

Congratulations to all students for your participation in school life in 2019.

On behalf of the college I wish all families a safe and restful break as we look forward to another positive year in 2020.

Humanities News

As part of our Year 8 unit on Entrepreneurs Ms Deprost invited guest speakers to describe their experiences as women running their own businesses. We would like to warmly thank Olivia from Organic Strands (Essendon) and Jackie from Jacq’s Boutique (Essendon) for giving their time to speak to our students and delivering an engaging presentation. Their experiences were insightful and helped to inspire some future business women.
