From the Principal
This week we congratulate our Year 12 students as they celebrated the end of their formal education today at Pascoe Vale Girls College. The 2019 graduates will be presented with their certificates at the Celebration evening on 27 November. Our Year 12 students have demonstrated what is possible, as scholars, leaders and responsible citizens in their six years at the college. They have continued to build the strong traditions within the school and made valuable contributions to the life of Pascoe Vale Girls College making it a dynamic, vibrant and stimulating place for learning.
We wish students all the best for the upcoming exam period and acknowledge the commitment they have made to their studies this year. I would also like to recognise Unit 3 and 4 teachers for the dedication they have shown to their classes and the ongoing support provided to students as they have progressed from Year 7 to Year 12 at the school.
The Year 12 Art and Design exhibition held last week was a wonderful celebration of work of our Year 12 students across the subjects of Studio Art, Visual Communication and Design and Product Design and Technology (Fabric). An outstanding exhibition which truly reflected the theme for the show this year: Metamorphosis. It was clear to see the dedication of students and teachers to the Arts and Design program at Pascoe Vale Girls College. Thank you to Sandra Tobias, Year 12 Studio Arts teacher and Ping Yan, Visual Communication and Design teacher for curating the exhibition and all members of the Arts and Design learning areas for their commitment to the program. Thank you also to Angela Myers, Learning Area Leader, Health, Food and Hospitality and the Year 10 Catering for a Crowd class who provided refreshments for the evening.
I am very pleased to inform our college community that construction commences today, Wednesday 23 October of our new Performing Arts Centre, Food Technology and Music facilities. The anticipated completion date is the end of Term 3, 2020. The driveway to the college from Lake Avenue will be closed from tomorrow as this area will be taken up by the new buildings. Access for parents who need to enter the Administration car park area will now be from Cornwall Road.
Progress reports were published on Compass last Friday, 18 October. Please contact your child’s year level coordinator if you wish to discuss progress or have any questions regarding college programs for 2020.
Monday 4 November, 2019 is a Curriculum day. Students are not required to attend school on this day.
Breaking Ground for PVGC’s New Development
In celebration of the construction that is now underway at PVGC, local state MP Lizzie Blandthorn and our architects from Brand Architects visited the school this week with the ‘golden shovel’.
Year 12 Celebration
All of the year 12 students need to be congratulated on their entertaining costumes on Tuesday 22nd October for Celebration Day. They were extremely creative and most had put a lot of time and effort into them. They looked fantastic. Secondly, their behaviour on the day was outstanding! Well done girls on a great day.
Welcome back to Term 4. This will be another extremely busy term in the Senior School. In the last week of Term 3 and in the first week of the school holidays all Unit 3 /4 students completed Practice Exams in preparation for the written exams which commence with English on the 30th October.
Reminder to parents that the first four days of the exams – from Wednesday 30th through to Monday 4th November, will all take place at the Northern Golf Club 97 Glenroy Road Glenroy. After Melbourne Cup, from Wednesday 6th November, they will all take place back at PVGC in the private study room. Students can catch the 534 bus from Glenroy station or it is a 15minute walk from Glenroy station to the Golf Club.
VCE students who complete a Unit 3 / 4 subject that has a practical component exam – Music or a LOTE subject, begin these exams this week. Feedback from those students that have already completed these exams have been very positive. Good luck to those students who have these exams over the next couple of days.
Today, Wednesday 23rd October several VCE languages will be completing their final VCE exam in their subject. These languages for PVGC students are:- Turkish, Arabic and Persian.
Year 11 students have three weeks of classes before the Unit 2 exams begin. Once again with such a short time, it is important that attendance is 100% and students attend school promptly!
Starting the 25th November all 2019 Year 11 students will commence their Year 12 2020 Program and all 2019 Year 10 students will start their Year 11 2020 program on Tuesday 26th November. This program is compulsory and students will be given important information and class work to be completed over the Christmas break to ensure they are ready to commence VCE/VCAL with some prior knowledge gained, so that teaching can begin immediately on the first day back in 2020. Reading of English novels, preparation for their first SAC or work placement in all subjects will be presented during this week.
