Japanese Sister School

This week we welcomed a delegation (three teachers and 15 students) from our Japanese Sister School, Toyota Higashi Senior High School. During their time here they have participated in some special classes at school such as learning about and playing AFL with Mr Freeman and making Anzac biscuits with Ms Myers. They have also attended some of their host sister’s classes and given presentations to some Japanese classes.

The delegation also visited Melbourne Zoo, Sovereign Hill, The Rialto and Queen Victoria Market with their host sisters. During their time with their host families they have done many fun activities such as bowling and shopping with some families even travelling as far as Phillip Island and the Great Ocean Road. A big heartfelt thank you to all host families for their generosity. I am sure all those involved will have wonderful memories of this time.

The school was presented with an official World Cup rugby ball and Japanese team jersey as a reminder of their visit, which we will proudly display. Later this year the Rugby World Cup will be held in Japan and some games will be played in Toyota city. You can actually see the stadium from their school so they are understandably very excited and proud that their home town is hosting this world event.

Next year a delegation from PVGC will travel to Toyota Higashi for 2 weeks in September. If you are interested in participating in this tour keep an eye out for information about it later in the year or ask your Japanese teacher for more information.

House Celebration Assembly

This week we had our House Celebration assemblies at Pascoe Vale Girls College.

Wake House would like to welcome the visiting students from Toyota Higashi as honourary Wake House members!

We would also like to congratulate Nabaa Albouswalim for winning the House Crest competition! She will be on the design team to create the final crest for Wake House.

According to the latest house points total, Wake is still in the lead and fighting hard to keep first place! Remember, participation in events is key to improving our points tally so make sure you participate in as many events as possible, such as the Soccer Tournament and the Talent Quest!

Thank you to Ms Perry and Sarah Adam for the images.

Earlier this week families with students in Years 7-10 should have received a copy of their child’s Victorian Curriculum results for Semester 1. This was sent home to alert you to an additional way that we are reporting on students at PVGC. In the future this report will not be sent home as it can be accessed via Compass. You can also access student’s Progress Reports and Learning Tasks on Compass.

During each semester students receive three Progress Reports. Semester 2 Progress Reports will be published on the following dates:

·         Friday 23rd August

·         Friday 18th October

·         Friday 29th November (Years 10 & 11)

·         Tuesday 10th December (Years 7, 8 & 9)

In addition to the regular Progress Reports students receive feedback through Learning Tasks for every Common Assessment Task (CAT).

If you have any queries regarding your child’s progress or results please contact the relevant Year Level Coordinator or individual teacher. There will also be an opportunity to meet your child’s teachers at Parent Teacher Interviews on Tuesday 27th August. Appointments can be made via Compass and a notification will be sent to you closer to the date.

It is important that all families have access to Compass as this is the primary means of communication between home and school. If you have any issues accessing Compass please contact the school.
