Pascoe Vale Girls Secondary College have had a student exchange program with the Japanese Toyota Higashi Senior High School for over 20 years. Toyota Higashi Senior High School is a well-respected Japanese school renowned for its art, music sport as well as academic results. The Toyota Higashi students take great pride in their school, which is part of the Toyota prefecture where Toyota car manufacturing is based.

The delegation with their Japanese teachers arrives on Sunday 23/7/2017 and they leave on Sunday 28/7/2017. The Japanese students from Toyota Higashi High School are mainly Year 10 and 11 students. The Toyota Higashi students will to stay with their Pascoe Vale Girls host family while they attend Pascoe Vale Girls on a daily basis. In 2020, students from Pascoe Vale Girl’s will go to Japan to be hosted by the Toyota Higashi students.

The Japanese students will attend daily classes at Pascoe Vale Girls and there will be day trips to places such as the Melbourne Zoo and Sovereign Hill. Students from Pascoe Vale Girls who have had Toyota Higashi students previously stay with their family have found it to be a most enjoyable experience and a great learning opportunity for all involved. Many of our host students have often established long-term friendships with the Toyota Higashi students and maintained contact over the years. Some Pascoe Vale students have even returned to Japan after finishing school to visit their host families.

School Production – Beautiful Nightmare

Rehearsals for this year’s production, “Beautiful Nightmare” are well underway, with students working hard on their songs, choreography and characters.

The Evil Sandman, the god of nightmares, (Safiyah Siddiqui) has gone power mad and is turning all the good dreams into bad ones.  The Good Fairy (Taylah Ryan) intervenes, sending two young sisters (Nethme Dassanyaki and Sasha Fitzpatrick) into the dreams to turn them happy.

There are monsters, an evil Queen, a nasty nurse, and a whole plethora of characters good and bad.  Featuring songs such as Beyonce’s “Sweet Dreams”, Bruno Mars’ “Uptown Funk”, Pharrell Williams’ “Happy” and the Goo Goo Dolls’ “Iris”, as well as some older classics such as “Mr Sandman” and “Dream a Little Dream” the show is going to be a lot of fun!
