Year 11 Studio Arts Excursion

On Thursday the 9th of May the Year 11 Studio Arts class visited the Top Arts exhibition at the National Gallery of Victoria. The artworks selected were composed of the top 43 Art and Studio Arts folios in year 12 2018.

Their artworks delved into serious themes like mental health, beauty standards and bringing out the beauty in the ordinary.

We were given the opportunity to see the process behind all these artworks by looking through all the selected visual diaries.

We gathered inspiration from the many layouts and methods the students used in their visual diaries so we can approach ours in a similar way for better results and ideas in the following years.

After lunch we visited commercial galleries like Flinders Lane Gallery, Tolarno Gallery and were fortunate to meet Melbourne based goldsmith Katzinka in her studio in the historical Nicholas Building.

Katzinka’s work space was something I don’t think any of us had seen before, filled with different stones, metals and ores it showed us arts unique pathways.

This excursion was not only fun and interesting but gave us an insight into the ways of the art world and the endless variations of  jobs we could potentially follow as we continue to look through and decide the courses we would like to pursue in the years to come.

Year 7 Inter school Softball – Region Finals

On the 9th of May the Year 7 Softball team attended the Northern Regional Metropolitan finals held in Mill Park, after winning the Moreland division back in term 1. Overall the team did well, finishing 2nd overall in their pool. After losing the first game to Montmorency in a close and exciting game the team was able to identify areas in which they could improve. The team used this new-found knowledge, along with their continued determination and positive attitude to win the next two games. Congratulations to the Year 7 Softball team on the tremendous effort exhibited throughout the day, your ability to work together as a team and not give up was admirable. Well done!

Year 10 Get Into Genes

As part of their Genetics studies, all year 10 Science classes attended an excursion at LaTrobe University in weeks 3-4 of Term 2. Students participated in Get Into Genes at LaTrobe’s Agribio Building, where they conducted four laboratory investigations using gene technology under the guidance of Agriculture Victoria. They also participated in a tour of the University and a career and course selection session with University staff. This included talks from current LaTrobe students (some of whom are also ex-pvgc students) on their journey from year 10 to university and what students should be doing in order to prepare them for the future. Students also heard about LaTrobe’s Aspire Program, which can see students gain early entry into a university course at LaTrobe based on their participation in any extra and co-curricular activities.
